Airlift does not replace your selected typeface with a different design. WOFF2 conversion changes the file format; subsetting reduces the character blocks in the optimized file. While the font loads, visitors can see a temporary fallback font. Once it arrives, your selected typeface is used. Check headings, buttons and icons after optimization.
No. Showing text in a fallback font avoids hiding it while the web font loads, but the switch can still be visible. Different font metrics can also change line breaks or move content. Airlift does not promise zero layout shift, and its default loading strategy does not mean the custom font itself arrives earlier.
Subsetting uses character blocks, not just individual letters found on a page. For characters outside the subset, a separate font rule points to the original font. That can require an additional download. The original font must contain the character; optimization cannot add language support that the typeface does not have.
It can replace supported Google Fonts stylesheets linked in the page or imported through CSS and serve optimized font copies from your site or its configured CDN. Incomplete captures can leave original sources in place. Fonts injected by JavaScript, including some third-party font loaders, may continue to load externally. This is not a privacy or legal-compliance guarantee.
The character inventory includes supported CSS-generated content, such as icon escapes, quotation marks and list markers. This helps retain characters that are not written directly in the page text. Check your icons after the first run, especially if a script inserts them dynamically.
Airlift can convert TTF and WOFF files to WOFF2. Existing WOFF2 files do not need that conversion. Other source formats are not universally converted, and optimization depends on the source and enabled features. Your original files remain unchanged.
